SULTRIM ORAL
SULTRIM ORAL is a veterinary oral antibacterial solution combining trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. According to the manufacturer, each milliliter contains 20 mg trimethoprim and 100 mg sulfamethoxazole. The formulation is designed to take advantage of the well-known synergistic action between these two active ingredients. They inhibit two sequential steps in the bacterial folate pathway, creating a stronger combined antibacterial effect against susceptible organisms than either component would generally provide alone.
The susceptible spectrum includes a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Proteus, Pasteurella, Haemophilus and Corynebacterium species. SULTRIM ORAL is therefore intended for the treatment of gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria in calves, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry, subject to veterinary diagnosis and the conditions of the local product authorization.
The product is administered through drinking water, allowing practical treatment of individual animals or groups depending on the production system. Correct mixing and accurate calculation of the required amount are essential. Water intake should be monitored because disease, age and environmental temperature can affect consumption and therefore the actual dose received by each animal. Medicated drinking water should be prepared as directed and used within the period stated by the manufacturer. Clinical response should also be assessed during treatment; lack of improvement or deterioration should prompt veterinary re-evaluation rather than simply extending therapy.
Trimethoprim-sulfonamide combinations should be used responsibly. SULTRIM ORAL should not be administered to animals with known hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulfonamides, and significant liver or kidney dysfunction, certain hematopoietic disorders, oliguria or anuria may be contraindications according to the product information. Restrictions relating to laying birds producing eggs for human consumption must also be respected. Hypersensitivity reactions and cross-resistance within the sulfonamide class can occur, so treatment should be limited to clinically justified cases and the approved duration.
SULTRIM ORAL is intended for veterinary use only. This description is suitable as a general website overview but does not replace the official package leaflet, local regulatory requirements or professional veterinary advice. Always follow the approved dosage, treatment duration, contraindications, withdrawal periods, handling precautions and storage instructions supplied with the product.
