COLIVET ORAL is a veterinary oral solution containing colistin sulphate at 2,000,000 IU per ml according to the manufacturer’s product information. Clinical progress should also be monitored, because diarrhea and enteric disease can have viral, parasitic, nutritional or management causes for which an antibacterial drug would not be appropriate.
Responsible use of colistin is especially important because antimicrobial resistance to polymyxins is a significant concern in both animal and human health. COLIVET ORAL should therefore be reserved for cases in which a clear bacterial indication exists and where susceptibility is expected or confirmed. Culture and susceptibility testing are recommended whenever feasible, particularly in recurrent herd or flock problems.
