VETKOFLOR 10% ORAL

VETKOFLOR 10% ORAL is a veterinary oral solution containing florfenicol at 100 mg per ml. It is a broad-spectrum antibacterial product intended for use when the causative microorganisms are susceptible to florfenicol. Florfenicol acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to ribosomal subunits, interfering with essential bacterial growth processes. Its spectrum includes a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms as well as selected atypical pathogens such as Mycoplasma.
Florfenicol is relatively lipophilic and distributes well into multiple tissues, which is important when treating systemic or respiratory infections. Product information identifies organisms such as Pasteurella, Actinobacillus, Salmonella and Streptococcus species among those that may be susceptible. VETKOFLOR 10% ORAL is therefore indicated for the prevention and treatment of selected gastrointestinal and respiratory bacterial infections in pigs and poultry when veterinary diagnosis supports the use of florfenicol.
The solution is designed for administration through drinking water, providing a practical option for group treatment. Accurate preparation is important because the effective dose received by each animal depends on both the product concentration and actual water consumption. The medicated water should be prepared using the approved label directions, and water intake should be monitored throughout treatment. Where specified, medicated water should be the only source of drinking water during the treatment period. The prepared solution should also be used within the recommended time and should not be stored in equipment that is incompatible with the product.
Responsible antimicrobial use remains essential. Treatment should ideally be guided by a veterinary diagnosis and, whenever possible, bacterial culture and susceptibility testing. Unnecessary exposure to antibiotics may contribute to antimicrobial resistance and should be avoided. VETKOFLOR 10% ORAL should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to florfenicol, and all label restrictions concerning breeding animals, laying birds, pregnancy or lactation must be observed according to local registration. Some treated pigs may show temporary changes such as reduced feed or water intake, softer feces, diarrhea or local perianal changes, and animals should be monitored accordingly.
