GENTA-DOX 5/10 WSP
GENTA-DOX 5/10 WSP is a water-soluble veterinary antibacterial formulation designed to combine the complementary activity of gentamicin and doxycycline in a single product. Each gram contains 50 mg gentamicin sulphate and 100 mg doxycycline hyclate. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with mainly bactericidal activity against a range of Gram-negative organisms, while doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and provides broad activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as selected atypical organisms such as Mycoplasma, Chlamydia and Rickettsia species.
The product is intended for the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms that are susceptible to gentamicin and/or doxycycline, particularly gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections in calves, lambs, kids, pigs and poultry. An important feature of the combination is the different distribution profile of the two active ingredients. Gentamicin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and therefore provides useful local antibacterial activity in the intestinal lumen. Doxycycline, in contrast, is absorbed and distributes well into tissues, including lung tissue, which supports its use in respiratory infections caused by susceptible organisms. This combination therefore offers both intestinal and systemic antibacterial support when clinically appropriate.
GENTA-DOX 5/10 WSP can be administered through drinking water or feed in accordance with the approved label. This makes it practical for group treatment programs in commercial animal production when veterinary assessment supports its use. Correct preparation of medicated water or feed, accurate dosing, adequate treatment duration and observance of the stated withdrawal periods are essential. Treatment solutions should be prepared and handled exactly as instructed on the product label, and unused medicated water should not be kept beyond the recommended period.
As with all antimicrobial products, responsible use is critical. The product should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides or tetracyclines, and extra caution is required in animals with impaired kidney or liver function. Potential interactions with other antimicrobial classes should also be considered by the attending veterinarian. Whenever possible, treatment should be guided by clinical diagnosis and antimicrobial susceptibility information in order to maximize efficacy and reduce unnecessary selection pressure for bacterial resistance.
GENTA-DOX 5/10 WSP is intended exclusively for veterinary use.
